Joe Locke from “Agatha All Along” Continues Young Marvel Trend

Agatha All Along reveals a thrilling new trailer showcasing Joe Locke’s character, often referred to as “Teen,” who enhances the emerging trend of young Marvel heroes. The Heartstopper star liberates Agatha Harkness early in the Disney+ series and, despite his actions, is a big fan of the notorious Salem witch. Hilariously, this positions him alongside other Young Avengers contenders like Ms. Marvel, Hawkeye, America Chavez, and Cassie Lang. These young heroes share a common trait: their admiration for the Avengers, which often leads to their own extraordinary abilities. This “honor student” attitude seems to be a key characteristic for potential Young Avengers members.

Using online resources, this teenager delves deeply into Agatha Harkness’s history, discovering her presence in Westview following the events of WandaVision. Determined, he sets her free from the spell binding her. Though his character’s identity remains a secret, it’s noteworthy that Wanda’s son, Billy, is a magic user who fits seamlessly into the Young Avengers framework from the comics. Teen seems more thrilled about meeting Agatha than fulfilling his heart’s desire at the end of the Witches Road, emphasizing the significance of potential powers he may gain in their volatile world.

Considering all these elements, Locke’s Wicca-trainee persona is an excellent fit for the new Young Avengers, not just due to his abilities but his sheer enthusiasm for the Avengers. This fanboyish devotion appears to be a standard prerequisite for the team. With Ironheart set for release next year, there’s anticipation about another addition to this budding group of heroes. Until then, we’ll have to remain patient.

Iman Vellani, who plays Ms. Marvel, provided some insight into the potential formation of the Young Avengers during a discussion on ComicBook’s Phase Zero podcast, following the events of The Marvels last year. Vellani shared that a scene featuring all the young Avengers together was initially planned for the end of The Marvels, but it was eventually replaced in favor of recruiting Hawkeye’s Kate Bishop.

“Yes, I mean, it was like pretty much the same lines,” Vellani recounted. “They were trying their best to include as many characters as possible. However, we thought it made more sense for Kamala to begin assembling the Young Avengers from scratch.” She further elaborated that “there was a version where they already existed, and I was like, ‘That doesn’t make any sense,’ and the team agreed not to film it that way.”

Vellani enjoyed her brief interactions with Hailee Steinfeld, who portrays Kate Bishop. “Working with Hailee was delightful, even if it was just for a day. It was refreshing to talk about the super suits and the future direction of the Young Avengers.” She expressed excitement at the prospect of the Young Avengers becoming a reality, noting, “It’s my favorite aspect of the first Avengers film, where Nick Fury and Scarlett Johansson gather everyone to form a team.”
