If you’re on the lookout for more “gay pop” songs, JoJo Siwa has you covered.

On Friday, July 12, the former Dance Moms star released her debut EP, Guilty Pleasure. Available via Columbia Records, the project features five tracks, including the previously released viral single “Karma,” alongside the EP’s title track and focus single, “Guilty Pleasure.”

Siwa had previously teased another song from the EP, “Choose Ur Fighter,” in a since-deleted Instagram video. Reflecting on the promotional cycle for her EP, Siwa shared her unexpected experience with backlash. “For the last few weeks the world has been f–king brutal,” she expressed. “They’ve been talking so much s–t … but I don’t give a f–k.”

In a viral interview with Billboard back in April, Siwa discussed her approach to her music career, claiming that she had “created” a new genre “called gay pop.” The statement sparked immediate criticism, with music fans noting that Siwa was not the first queer person to make music explicitly for queer audiences. Later, in a clarification, Siwa acknowledged that she didn’t create the genre of “gay pop,” but emphasized her commitment to its success.

“I am not the inventor of gay pop, for sure not. But I do want to be a piece of making it bigger than it already is. I want to bring more attention to it,” she explained. “I’m not the president [of gay pop], but I might be the CEO, or the CMO. I can be the CMO, the chief marketing officer, and use my marketing tactics whether people like it or not.”
