Judge declares mistrial in case of Arizona rancher charged with killing Mexican man on border land

A jury could not reach a verdict in the case of Arizona rancher George Alan Kelly, accused of second-degree murder in connection to the death of Mexican national Gabriel Cuen-Buitimea found shot on his ranch in January 2023. The defense argued Cuen-Buitimea was involved in criminal activities and may have been killed by a rip crew. The prosecution maintained Kelly escalated the situation by firing his weapon without warning. The jury was unable to determine if the shooting was justified, leading to a mistrial. The case drew attention to the complexities of self-defense in isolated areas along the border.
