Judge Suspends Justin Timberlake’s License for DWI Arrest in New York

SAG HARBOR, N.Y. (AP) — A New York judge suspended Justin Timberlake’s driver’s license during a virtual court appearance on Long Island on Friday.

Timberlake pleaded not guilty to driving while intoxicated. He was arrested on June 18 after allegedly running a stop sign and veering out of his lane.

Although appearing remotely, the former NSYNC singer, who is currently on tour in Europe, had little to say during the arraignment.

His attorney, Edward Burke Jr., maintains that Timberlake was not intoxicated and argues that the case should be dismissed.

“The facts remain he was not intoxicated,” said Burke. “I’ll say it again: Justin Timberlake was not intoxicated and we’re very confident that charge, that criminal charge, will be dismissed.”

Sag Harbor Village Justice Carl Irace not only suspended Timberlake’s license but also threatened to impose a gag order on Burke due to his comments to the media. Irace deemed them inappropriate.

The next court date has been set for August 9.

The case experienced delays when Burke claimed the original charging document was flawed due to the lack of a sergeant’s signature and should therefore be dismissed.

Assistant District Attorney Ashley Cangro stated that new documents were filed on July 2 that should rectify that issue.

According to court documents, Timberlake was driving a BMW in the upscale beach town of Sag Harbor around 12:30 a.m. when an officer pulled him over and determined he was intoxicated.

“His eyes were bloodshot and glassy, a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from his breath, he was unable to divide attention, he had slowed speech, he was unsteady afoot and he performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests,” stated the court documents.

Timberlake, 43, informed the officer that he had consumed one martini and was following some friends home. He was subsequently arrested and spent the night in custody at a police station.
