Judge threatens Trump with jail in hush money trial for contempt of court due to violating gag order

The judge overseeing Donald Trump’s hush money case found him in criminal contempt over posts on Truth Social that violated a gag order. Judge Juan Merchan ruled Trump in contempt for nine violations, with a $1,000 fine for each. The order prohibits Trump from making public statements about witnesses or jurors. Prosecutors accused Trump of violating the order at least 10 times. Trump’s legal team argued he was responding to political attacks. Trump faces up to four years in prison if convicted. The judge warned of incarceratory punishment for further violations, despite Trump’s plea of not guilty to 34 counts.
