Justice Department Charges Four Iranians in Multi-Year Cyber Attack on U.S. Companies

An indictment unsealed in Manhattan federal court charges four Iranian nationals for a cyber-enabled campaign to compromise U.S. entities, including the Departments of Treasury and State. Their actions pose a threat to national security and economic stability. The FBI and Department of State’s Rewards for Justice program are offering up to $10 million for information leading to their identification. The defendants used spearphishing and social engineering to target defense contractors and other companies. They are charged with conspiracy to commit computer and wire fraud, wire fraud, aggravated identity theft, and damaging a protected computer. The FBI Cyber Division is investigating the case.
