Kate’s Timeless Wardrobe and Favorite Brands Shine at Crathie Kirk Service

It isn’t unusual for the Princess of Wales to be spotted repeating outfits as she heads to glittering galas and high-profile gatherings with world’s royalty.

This has overwhelmingly been the case as Kate Middleton gradually makes her return to public life after her cancer diagnosis.

The mother-of-three was seen today joining her husband, Prince William, the King, Queen, and the disgraced Prince Andrew at Crathie Kirk church in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

This marks her third public appearance since her diagnosis earlier this year, following her presence at the Wimbledon Grand Slam final in July and Trooping the Colour in June.

The Princess of Wales, 42, also recorded a video to celebrate Team GB’s success at the Olympics earlier in August.

A trend is evident in Kate’s appearances this year: her fashion choices remain familiar, sticking to comfortable wardrobe staples as she resumes her public duties.

Today was no exception, as the Princess of Wales made her way to Crathie Kirk in a beige tartan Marlborough trench coat from Holland Cooper and a dark brown wool felt fedora.

The hat, from Hicks & Brown, retails for £99 and is a favourite of the mother-of-three, who previously wore it almost a year ago to the day at Crathie Kirk with her family.

Not only this, but Kate also turned to old favourites when recording a video with Prince William to congratulate Team GB on their Olympics success earlier in August.

In the video, the Princess of Wales debuted a slightly new look: side-parted hair streaked with caramel and a new ring alongside her wedding band.

The top she chose in the video was very typical of the princess: a navy Breton sailor shirt.

The £139 Ralph Lauren Breton top is new, but some in her possession are more than 11 years old. Each has a subtle tweak – a navy neck, a higher neckline, cut narrow or boxy, in wool, cotton, or cashmere.

Notably, Kate wore a very similar ensemble when she braved the camera to tell the country about her cancer diagnosis. This time, it was cashmere, £160, and by her friend and favourite designer, Erdem.

Kate has worn variations of the Breton stripe top for a supermarket shop, out sailing, playing with her children, and making appeals for her various charities.

When she revisited the University of St Andrews, where she fell in love with William, out it came again. And up it popped during the pandemic, when she and William spoke via Zoom about lockdown and mental health.

Away from her clear love for stripes, Kate has turned to other familiar wardrobe staples when making her slow return to public life.

At Wimbledon, the Princess of Wales brought out a 122 Milly Nude leather bag from LK Bennett, which she has worn before on numerous occasions.

The bag complements Kate’s often brightly coloured dresses well, and its appearance at Wimbledon – which she attended with Princess Charlotte – was far from coincidental.

Kate’s first public appearance of the year was at the Trooping of the Colour in June.

Here, again, she opted for a wardrobe staple – this time a classic cut, white dress by one of her favourite designers.

The knee-length, slim-fit dress might not have been seen before, but the designer Jenny Packham is a firm favourite of the Princess of Wales.

She has been spotted in dresses by the designer since at least 2011.

In fact, the dresses she wore to introduce all three of her children to the world outside the King Edward VII’s Hospital were each by Packham.
