Katy Perry Rocks Edgy Leather Jacket and Shorts Promoting Album “143”

Katy Perry is gearing up to release her seventh studio album, titled “143.”

The “Wide Awake” singer, 39, made a special appearance at SiriusXM Studios in Los Angeles on Monday to promote her latest record. She was accompanied by her daughter, Daisy Dove, one. During her visit, she also posed with SiriusXM Radio DJ Tony Fly, holding up balloons that read “143” as they discussed her new music.

Channeling the edgy vibe of her current era, Perry wore a low-cut corset top that showed off her taut tummy, paired with a leather jacket and matching shorts. The upcoming album will feature some of her previously released singles, “Woman’s World” and “Lifetimes,” and is set to drop on September 20.

However, both songs have underperformed on the charts, receiving mixed reviews. Perry faced backlash after releasing the “Woman’s World” video, which was critiqued for leaning into pseudo-empowering female tropes. Defending the video, Perry explained in a behind-the-scenes clip, “We’re kind of just having fun, being a bit sarcastic with it. It’s very slapstick and very on the nose.”

She added, “With this set it’s like, ‘Oooh, we’re not about the male gaze, but we really are about the male gaze.’ And we’re really overplaying it and on the nose.”

Perry also faced criticism for the sexualized nature of the video and for working with music producer Dr. Luke, who had a legal battle with Kesha involving accusations of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse.

“Woman’s World” was billed as an empowering feminist song but was dismissed as hypocritical and unoriginal. In response, Kesha posted “lol” on her social media account.

Meanwhile, her latest video for “Lifetimes” has also stirred controversy, as it was filmed on protected sand dunes in the Balearic Islands without proper authorization. The local government has since launched an investigation. Perry’s label, Capitol Records, claimed they were assured that all necessary permits were secured, although it now appears that only one permit was in process, but they were given verbal authority to proceed.

Capitol Records stated, “We adhered to all regulations associated with filming in this area and have the utmost respect for this location and the officials tasked with protecting it.”

Last month, Perry opened up about her album in an interview, describing it as a “dance party and everyone’s invited.” She also explained the significance of the title “143,” saying, “It’s my angel number. It’s my symbol, it’s my sign. A couple of years ago, we were going through a hard time medically in our family, and it was a bit scary. I started seeing 143 in many different ways, not just on the phone. I really believe it was my angels, my guides saying, ‘I love you. We got you. We’re going to protect you. You’re exactly where you’re meant to be. You’re on the path.'”

Perry is slated to perform some of her iconic hits and recent singles in Los Angeles on Friday, August 23, to tease her new album. The concert, held by Beaches Tropicana, is already sold out, but access is available through the purchase of bottle service via the event’s site.

Additionally, she is set to be honored at next month’s MTV Video Music Awards with the Video Vanguard Award and will also perform at the 41st annual awards show.

Since dropping the album’s lead single “Woman’s World” in late July, Perry has received worse reviews than expected as fans and critics have dismissed the track. Insiders close to the “I Kissed a Girl” singer claim she is scrambling to devise a new plan to salvage her musical comeback.

“Katy is freaking out right now because she is very aware of the feedback that ‘Woman’s World’ is getting,” an insider told DailyMail.com. “She is pointing fingers at everyone but herself, but it is her own fault.”

The source also explained that Perry is out of touch with women of “the real world,” adding, “Katy cannot identify with other women because she lives in her celebrity bubble. She knows nothing about what it is like to be a woman in the real world. She is not using her star power to make change in the world – she is using it to make money.”

The “Teenage Dream” hitmaker recently released the follow-up single, “Lifetimes,” which has also received mixed reviews.
