Kaufhold clinches double gold as Team USA dominates Pan American Championships

On April 14, 2024, the final day of the 2024 Pan American Championships in Medellin, Colombia, brought more medals for the USA, all in the recurve division.

Casey Kaufhold secured two gold medals, one in the recurve women team event and the other in the individual competition, both after a shoot-off.

In the recurve men’s event, Jackson Mirich won silver, and Jack Williams took bronze. Williams also joined the bronze-winning recurve men’s team.

These additional medals on Sunday brought the USA’s total tally to 12, including seven gold, two silver, and three bronze medals, with three golds in individual events and four in team competitions.

Kaufhold faced tough competition from Alejandra Valencia (MEX) in the individual event, eventually winning in a shoot-off after a close match.

The USA team, consisting of Kaufhold, Catalina Noriega, and Jennifer Mucino-Fernandez, also claimed gold in the recurve women’s team event against Mexico in a shoot-off.

Williams, along with Gabe Anderson and Brady Ellison, won the recurve men’s team event against Mexico before Williams competed in the individual competition and earned a bronze medal.

In the recurve men’s individual gold medal match, Mirich fell short against Matias Grande (MEX) after a late surge from the Mexican archer.

Team USA’s impressive medal haul also included three golds for compound archer Alexis Ruiz, securing a slot for the United States at next year’s World Games in China.

The recurve women’s team not only won the Pan American Championships but also filled their quota slots for the Olympic Games in Paris later this year.

In the barebow division, the USA took gold and silver in the women’s competition. Gold medalist Cindy Czako also won the barebow mixed team event alongside Marcus Cooley.
