Kehlani’s Ex Seeks Full Custody, Claims Singer Is in a “Cult”

Kehlani’s ex-partner, Javaughn Young-White, has filed a petition seeking legal and physical custody of their 5-year-old daughter, Adeya. Alongside the custody request, he is also seeking child support, citing concerns about the singer’s alleged involvement in what he describes as a cult.

In the court documents filed in Los Angeles on July 24, and obtained by Billboard, Young-White claims he feels marginalized when it comes to his daughter’s upbringing. He states, “everyone else has bigger say-so when it comes to upbringing of our daughter than I do.” He further explains that since Adeya was born at home and not in a conventional hospital setting, his name is absent from her birth certificate. Despite his efforts to obtain a copy of both the child’s birth certificate and social security number, he claims he’s been unsuccessful.

Kehlani, whose full name is Kehlani Parrish, allegedly has been involved with this cult for several years, according to Young-White’s filing. He asserts that the cult significantly influences her actions and behavior, including decisions related to their daughter’s upbringing.

Young-White also alleges that he attempted to retrieve his daughter in the past but was “physically restrained and threatened” by members of the cult. He expresses concern about Adeya’s well-being, alleging that she sleeps in the bed with, and is bathed by, various adult cult members, and is often left alone in the bedroom with them, especially while Kehlani is on tour.

Additionally, Young-White is requesting that Kehlani undergoes a psychological examination. He also wants his name to be added to Adeya’s birth certificate and for her name to be changed officially from Adeya Parrish to Adeya Parrish Young-White. He believes full custody of Adeya should be granted to him due to Kehlani’s busy schedule and her affiliations with the alleged cult.

“I am not here to disparage [Kehlani]. However, the environment that she has created for herself is not the type of environment that a child should be living in and therefore, I bring myself to the mercy and wisdom of the Court to save my daughter before it is too late,” Young-White concluded in his filing.

Kehlani has not yet publicly responded to the allegations in Young-White’s custody petition. Billboard has reached out to representatives for both the singer and her former partner for comment.
