Kesha Alters “Tik Tok” Lyrics to Condemn Diddy Amid Allegations

During his surprise appearance at Coachella 2024, singer Kesha marked a notable moment by modifying the lyrics of his 2010 hit single, “Tik Tok”, in a clear demonstration against Sean Diddy Combs.

With Renee Rapp as an accomplice on stage, the singer transformed the iconic “Wake up in the morning feeling like P. Diddy” to “Wake up in the morning like fuck P. Diddy,” accompanied by an explicit sign of disapproval with the middle finger from both Kesha and Rapp and other musicians present.

This gesture not only symbolizes an artistic distancing from Combs but also reflects a position taken in the context of recent allegations of abuse and sex trafficking that weigh on him.

The context of the allegations against Combs includes several recent sexual assault lawsuits, as well as an ongoing federal investigation led by a Department of Homeland Security team specializing in human trafficking crimes, which even led to inspections at two of the rapper’s properties.

Despite Combs’ denials and legal defense, the tycoon’s public image has been seriously affected, even losing brand deals and resigning from his position as CEO of Revolt, the television network he founded.

Kesha’s action at Coachella takes on a significant dimension, given her own history of sexual assault accusations and long legal battle against her former producer, Dr. Luke.

Kesha’s renewed stance reflects an evolution in her art and public activism. Previously, during her Only Love tour in Los Angeles in November 2023, she had modified the lyrics of “Tik Tok” relating to singer Cassie Ventura’s lawsuit settlement against Diddy.

The moment of rebellion in Coachella was preceded by an energetic introduction and support from the team of the remembered series The L Word. The actresses Jennifer Beals, Kate Moennig, Leisha Hailey, and the screenwriter Ilene Chaiken prepared the audience for the young star’s concert.
