Kylie Jenner reveals year-long struggle to name son due to postpartum depression

Kylie Jenner says it took her a year to decide on her son’s name.

Kylie Jenner, 27, revealed that it took her a year to decide on her son’s name due to battling postpartum depression. Speaking to British Vogue, the Kylie Cosmetics founder shared her experiences as a young mother, detailing the emotional challenges she faced after giving birth to each of her children.

Jenner, who has a daughter Stormi, 6, and a son Aire, 2, with her ex Travis Scott, recounted how she confronted postpartum depression in different ways after each birth. She mentioned having “major baby blues” after her son’s birth, leading to intense emotions over things that usually wouldn’t affect her.

The difficulty in choosing a name for her son became a significant emotional hurdle. “On the phone with my mom all day hysterically crying, saying, ‘I can’t figure out his name,'” Jenner shared. Her son’s perfection magnified her feelings of inadequacy for not being able to name him promptly.

Eventually, she decided on the name Aire after a year of contemplation. Now, Jenner advises her expecting friends to decide on baby names beforehand, saying that it becomes challenging to make decisions when hormones surge postpartum.

A survey by BabyCenter, an online pregnancy and parenting platform, found that most parents choose their baby’s name during the second trimester. However, 17% decide on the day of birth, while 8% wait a few days or even weeks to make the final choice.

Unique baby names are increasingly popular, driven by social media and celebrity influence. However, some countries like Germany enforce strict naming laws that prevent parents from naming their children after places, titles, or brands.

For some parents, selecting a unique baby name is so crucial that they hire baby-naming consultants, who can charge up to $10,000 for their expertise.
