Las Vegas teacher freed from jail following altercation with student in viral video, allegedly triggered by racial slur

A substitute teacher who was filmed fighting a high school student after a racially charged comment was released from custody after being arrested the day before. Re’Kwon Smith, 27, faced charges of battery and assault on a school pupil after video footage showed him and the student throwing punches. Despite rumors of a racial slur being used by the student, the Clark County School District police have not confirmed this. The teacher was released on conditional bail with restrictions, and as the investigation continues, there is still disagreement within the school community about who is to blame for the incident. The president of Nevada PTA highlighted the need for more de-escalation training for educators.
