Lawsuit Filed by Ralph Yarl’s Family Against Andrew Lester Following Shooting Incident

The family of Ralph Yarl, a teenager shot in April 2023 in Kansas City, Mo., is suing the man charged in the shooting for “careless and negligent conduct.” Yarl approached the wrong home and was shot by Andrew Lester, 85, who is White. The lawsuit, filed by Yarl’s mother, alleges that Lester discharged a firearm at an unarmed minor. Lester was charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action and pleaded not guilty. The incident sparked national outrage over self-defense laws.
