Live updates: Pro-Palestinian demonstrations cause disruptions at universities nationwide

College campuses in the US have been experiencing protests calling for divestment from Israel. Divestment is the opposite of investment, where universities withdraw donated funds invested in various financial instruments like stocks. Protests at schools like Columbia, Cornell, and Yale are pushing for divestment from companies linked to Israel or weapon manufacturers. While some universities, like Columbia and the University of California, have refused divestment, others, like Brown University, are willing to consider proposals. This is not the first time universities have faced divestment pressure, as in the 1980s, Columbia divested from companies involved in South Africa during apartheid.
