Lori Petty and Bobby Moynihan Join CBS’ ‘NCIS: Origins’ Spinoff

Lori Petty and Bobby Moynihan have joined the cast of CBS’s upcoming “NCIS” prequel series, “NCIS: Origins.” This promising new addition also features talents like Austin Stowell, Kyle Schmid, Tyla Abercrumbie, Michael Molino, Diany Rodriguez, and Caleb Foote, with Mark Harmon taking on the role of narrator.

Petty will portray Dr. Lenora Friedman, a seasoned pathologist at the San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office. Her character is described as being just as comfortable around the dead as with the living, and her passion for her work is infectious. Moynihan will play Woodrow “Woody” Browne, the overworked senior chemist and director of the NIS Forensic Lab. Browne compensates for his lack of sleep with an offbeat sense of humor.

“NCIS: Origins” started production this past Monday and will premiere on October 14 at 9 p.m. ET. The show will focus on a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs, played by Stowell, set in 1991—years before the events of NCIS. The series will explore Gibbs’s early career as a newly minted special agent at the NCIS Camp Pendleton office. Under the leadership of NCIS legend Mike Franks, played by Schmid, Gibbs finds his place within a gritty, ragtag team.

Lori Petty’s recent appearances include HBO Max’s “Station Eleven.” She has also been seen in Netflix’s “Orange Is the New Black,” Bill Burr’s sketch comedy series “Immoral Compass,” Netflix’s comedy “Obliterated,” Pop TV’s “Swedish Dicks,” and Fox’s “Gotham.” Upcoming projects for Petty include the indie film “Tonic.” Her impressive resume includes roles in “Point Break,” “A League of Their Own,” “Tank Girl,” “Free Willy,” and “Poetic Justice.” She recently directed the play “Trial” at The American Theatre of Actors.

Bobby Moynihan, known for his nine-season stint on “Saturday Night Live,” was recently featured in Netflix’s “Unfrosted: The Pop Tart Story,” directed by Jerry Seinfeld, and Paramount’s “Imaginary Friends,” directed by John Krasinski. His next film project is “You’re Cordially Invited,” starring alongside Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon. Moynihan’s TV credits are extensive, including “Mr. Mayor,” “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” “Documentary Now!,” “Drunk History,” “The Simpsons,” “Girls,” and “Portlandia.” He is also a regular voice actor in series such as “We Bare Bears,” “DuckTales,” “Star Wars Resistance,” and in films like “Inside Out” and “Monsters University.” Additionally, he authored the children’s book “Not All Sheep Are Boring.”
