Mad Cave Studios Unveils New Supernatural Thriller Series “String”

Mad Cave Studios is diving into the supernatural genre with its new series, and we’ve got your exclusive first look! The series is titled “String” and comes from an impressive team: Eisner award-winning writer Paul Tobin (known for “Bandette” and “Bunny Mask”), artist Carlos Olivares, colorist Sara Colella, and letterer Taylor Esposito. The series will feature covers by Carlos Javier Olivares, Sara Colella, and Eden Chyun. “String” revolves around Yoon-Sook Namgung, a woman who can see two types of strings between people, one of which indicates a future murder, with Yoon herself ominously connected by one.

Yoon’s unique ability to see these connections allows her a rare glimpse into people’s lives. One type of string reveals sexual partners, but the other, more sinister string, connects a murderer and their victim. The plot thickens when Yoon discovers a black string linked to herself. This unsettling revelation raises an ominous question: will Yoon become a murderer, or is she destined to be a victim?

“Yoon-Sook Namgung is a 25-year-old Korean-American woman with the unusual ability to see two types of ‘strings’ connecting people. The first is blue, connecting sexual partners. The second is dark black, linking murderers and their victims. Yoon can solve your murder mystery or reveal whether your partner is cheating, as she can literally see the connections,” the series description explains.

Yoon’s life is brimming with drama and constant information overload, yet it remains manageable—until the day she notices a black string connected to herself. This means she’ll either soon murder someone or be murdered herself. So… which one will it be?

“I’ve always been fascinated by the differences in how people perceive the world, and Yoon is a culmination of my fascinations. She can see connections others can’t, secrets others can’t possibly know,” Paul Tobin said. “It’s exciting to step into her world, though a bit intimidating as well! Working with Carlos has been incredibly fulfilling. Whenever he turns in art, I think, ‘Ooo! I didn’t expect that!’ But he’s always right!”

Carlos Olivares shared his thoughts: “String makes you disconnect and dive into a story filled with fantastic characters. It’s pure entertainment, with situations and strings that keep you hooked to their plots—a delightful work from Paul that’s fresh and action-packed. It’s a real pleasure to share it with you! You’re going to have a great time!”

Fans can delve into this supernatural thriller when “String #1 (of 5)” hits comic stores on November 13th.
