Maduro Declares Closure of Venezuelan Embassy and Consulates in Ecuador

The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, announced on Tuesday that his government has made the decision to close its embassy in Ecuador and the consulates in Quito and Guayaquil. This decision comes in response to the raid conducted by the Ecuadorian Police at the Mexican diplomatic headquarters in Quito and the subsequent statements made by Noboa regarding this incident.

During the extraordinary virtual Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac) addressing this sensitive issue, President Maduro stated that this measure will be effective immediately.

“I have given the order to close our Embassy in Ecuador, shut down the Consulate in Quito, and immediately close the Consulate in Guayaquil, with diplomatic personnel instructed to return to Venezuela promptly,” Maduro declared.

CNN is currently attempting to reach out to the Government of Ecuador for their response to Maduro’s announcement.

This is an ongoing situation and more information will be updated as it becomes available.
