Man sentenced to prison for storming Capitol with Confederate flag and pepper spraying officers

A Kentucky man, Israel James Easterday, has been sentenced to over two years in prison for using pepper spray against law enforcement officers and carrying a Confederate flag while storming the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Easterday traveled to D.C. because he was upset with the election results and joined the mob outside the Capitol building. He sprayed an officer in the face, causing them to collapse and lose consciousness. Easterday also sprayed another group of officers before being arrested in Miami in 2022. Despite his young age, he was given a lower sentence due to lack of understanding. He apologized and expressed deep shame for his actions. Over 1,300 individuals have been charged for the insurrection, including 500 for assaulting law enforcement.
