A Jan. 6 defendant, Isreal Easterday, was sentenced to 30 months in prison for assaulting police officers with chemical spray at the Capitol. Prosecutors sought 151 months for Easterday, who was convicted on felony charges of civil disorder and assaulting officers. The defense argued he did not fully understand the symbolism of the Confederate flag he carried. Prosecutors described Easterday’s actions in detail, including assaulting officers with pepper spray. Over 1,387 Capitol attack defendants have been charged, with more than 984 convictions secured. Around 520 have been sentenced to incarceration, with only 15 in pretrial custody.
