Mandalorian and Grogu Overlay Coming to Galaxy’s Edge

As part of D23, during a “Fortnite”/Epic Games announcement, Lucasfilm chief creative officer Dave Filoni revealed an exciting update for Disney parks. An overlay for Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run, the flight simulator attraction at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, is in development and will be themed around the upcoming “Star Wars” feature “The Mandalorian & Grogu.”

Filoni mentioned that he and Jon Favreau, director of “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” have been spending a considerable amount of time in the parks. They are collaborating closely with Imagineering to create “a new story” for the popular attraction.

This new addition will be available at Disneyland in Anaheim, California, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World near Orlando, Florida.

Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run originally opened with a theme loosely tied to “Solo: A Star Wars Story.” Though it featured a fresh narrative, the ride centered around stealing an important element from the movie. Unfortunately, “Solo: A Star Wars Story” did not receive the enthusiastic reception Disney had hoped for.

However, this time, the overhaul will be based on “The Mandalorian,” a series that has achieved immense popularity on Disney+. The success of “The Mandalorian” ensures that the new theme will likely resonate well with fans and visitors. The expansion will make the attraction even more appealing by aligning it with the beloved universe of “The Mandalorian & Grogu.”

Although no specific timeline has been given for the update, the new movie is set to hit theaters in 2026.
