Marilyn Mosby’s lawyers push for no jail time, while prosecutors request 20 months in prison

Lawyers are challenging the sentencing guidelines in Marilyn Mosby’s mortgage fraud case in a new court filing. Mosby faces up to 40 years in federal prison for perjury and mortgage fraud, but prosecutors want her to serve 20 months behind bars, while her attorneys argue she should not face prison time. The objection cites 18 U.S.C. § 3553 and states that Mosby was charged and convicted for repeatedly breaking the law, not for her politics or policies. She was found guilty in two trials for lying about a vacation home mortgage and COVID-related withdrawals. Prosecutors have also asked to seize Mosby’s Florida condo. Her sentencing is scheduled for May 23.
