Mark Wahlberg & Halle Berry’s New Film Leads Netflix Weekly Charts

Despite being available for only a short period, The Union has swiftly become the most-watched movie on Netflix for the entire last week. The new action comedy, starring Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry, debuted on the platform this past Friday, August 16th. The star power of its leads helped catapult The Union to the top of Netflix’s charts, surpassing all other films on the service in its opening weekend.

On Tuesday, Netflix unveiled the streaming numbers for its most popular titles from August 12th through August 18th. The Union was available on the platform for just three days within that period, but it still managed to attract more viewers than all other films in the lineup.

According to Netflix’s data, The Union amassed 60 million hours of viewing time, resulting in a total of 33.1 million views. This extraordinary success has continued into this week, as evidenced by The Union‘s number one position on Tuesday’s daily rotating Netflix Top 10 Movies chart.

“In this explosive action comedy, a construction worker plunges into the dangerous world of espionage after reuniting with his high school sweetheart,” reads the tagline for The Union. The film’s dynamic mix of comedy and action, coupled with the star power of Wahlberg and Berry, clearly resonated with viewers.

As we shift focus to other popular titles on Netflix, Migration takes the number two spot. This enchanting film stars Kumail Nanjiani, Elizabeth Banks, and Danny DeVito. It tells the story of a family of ducks who embark on an exciting journey to Jamaica.

At number three, we find The Emoji Movie. This film explores the life of Gene, an emoji in Textopolis who displays multiple expressions and is determined to become “normal.”

Trolls Band Together ranks fourth. In this installment, four former pop idols unite their voices to save their brother. The movie has been described as ‘funny and clever’ by the New York Times.

Night School follows in fifth place, narrating the tale of a high school dropout who struggles to pass his GED exam while dealing with a feisty night school teacher and a vindictive principal.

In the sixth spot is Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax. This film revolves around a curious boy who learns the truth about his town when he searches for the Once-ler, a mysterious hermit who knows what happened to all the trees.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie sits at number seven. This family film tells the story of two Brooklyn plumbers who find themselves transported to an entirely new world, brought to life by the creators of the Despicable Me franchise.

Ranked eighth is Minions, a prequel that follows Kevin, Stuart, and Bob as they travel back in time to win the favor of supervillain Scarlet Overkill.

Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie, in ninth place, is a lively animated comedy in which underwater friends leave the ocean to search for their missing town on dry land.

Closing out the top ten is Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. This action-packed film features Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher, who discovers a vast conspiracy when his friend is accused of murder, forcing him to go on the run.

The impressive viewership numbers for The Union reinforce the potent draw of star-studded casts and engaging storylines. With an action-packed narrative and the compelling performances of Wahlberg and Berry, it’s no wonder The Union has captured the attention and imagination of Netflix viewers worldwide.
