Marvel Confirms Wolverine Smells Terrible in an Unexpected Spot

Wolverine’s deodorant advertisement was just one of many highlights on the pages of “Marvel Illustrated: The Swimsuit Issue” #1. Fans who were disappointed that “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” likely won’t be back for a second season can discover how to get a body like hers through the “No Prisoners Workout.” Daredevil makes an appearance in a boxing feature, where he discusses the boxing legacy of his father, Battlin’ Jack Murdock. Throughout the issue, there are even more product ads mixed in with the parody sports articles and illustrations of beach-ready Marvel characters. Reed Richards promotes a digital watch, while Thor himself endorses shaving razors in a couple of these ads.

“Marvel Illustrated: The Swimsuit Issue” #1 wasn’t a standalone thing either. It was followed by four yearly “Swimsuit Specials” from 1992 to 1995. Much like the first issue, the subsequent specials continue to spotlight Marvel characters in more revealing outfits than usual. Wolverine appears again; in 1992’s “Swimsuit Special” #1, he is seen modeling a pair of baggies alongside the Thing, the Hulk, and his X-Men colleague Beast. No word, however, on whether these heroes were put off by Logan’s less-than-ideal personal hygiene during that shoot.
