Maryland officials reveal timeline and cost estimate for bridge reconstruction effort

Maryland plans to rebuild the Francis Scott Key Bridge in just over four years at an estimated cost between $1.7 billion and $1.9 billion. Salvage efforts continue and a fifth victim was recovered. The new span is expected by fall 2028. The victims of the collapse were identified as Latino immigrants. Salvage teams also found a missing construction vehicle and the insurance company for the bridge, Chubb, confirmed a $350 million payout. The Dali container ship remains stationary after the collapse, but plans are in place to refloat and remove the ship by May 10. Salvage and demolition crews are working to clear the wreckage site.
