Mayor Adams urges Columbia protesters to vacate the premises immediately as demonstrations are hijacked by external instigators.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams issued a stern warning to Columbia University protesters who occupied a building overnight, urging them to disperse and continue their advocacy through other means. Tensions have escalated on campus as protesters barricaded themselves inside Hamilton Hall, prompting the school to limit access to essential workers and students. Mayor Adams and Police Commissioner Edward Caban accused outside agitators of escalating the situation. Students inside the building demanded divestment, financial transparency, and amnesty. The university enforced consequences for protesters’ actions, suspending students who participated in the encampment. NYPD remains off-campus unless there is an imminent emergency.
