Megyn Kelly Reacts Strongly to Column Calling Kamala Harris’s Husband a ‘Sex Symbol’

Conservative commentator Megyn Kelly expressed strong disapproval over a Washington Post opinion column that described second gentleman Doug Emhoff as a “progressive sex symbol.”

Catherine Rampell, in her piece for The Post, suggested that Emhoff, who has been married to Vice President Kamala Harris for ten years and has a background as an entertainment lawyer, represents “the modern female fantasy.” This characterization led Kelly to label the media as “absolutely disgusting.” She also argued that the article was Rampell’s attempt to curry favor with Democrats.

Kelly commented, “She’s the one who wrote the piece ripping Kamala’s economic plan to shreds on the price gouging, saying this is ridiculous when they’re accusing you of being a communist. Maybe don’t propose communism as your economic plan,” referring to Rampell. Kelly suggested that Rampell faced backlash from her left-leaning readers and thus wrote this op-ed to regain favor by praising the second gentleman, who, according to Kelly, was involved in a scandal during his first marriage.

Elaborating on her accusations, Kelly alleged, “He either aborted the child or he abandoned the child. Either way, no bueno.”

Kelly quoted an excerpt from Rampell’s column, which read: “Emhoff is secure enough with his own masculinity to sometimes prioritize his wife’s ambitions over his own. What. A. Hunk.”

In her article, Rampell emphasized Emhoff’s supportive nature by stating, “Whatever his previous marital drama, that makes him the working woman’s ideal partner today: He’s a high-achieving alpha but isn’t threatened if his wife is, too… He loves his job, but he loves his wife more. He knows that ‘supporting’ one’s family is about more than financial support, and that temporarily setting aside his own professional ego makes him no less of a man.”

The Independent reached out to Rampell for further comments. In response to the column, Emhoff acknowledged earlier this month that he had an extramarital affair during his previous marriage, as reported by the Daily Mail. The affair, contrary to Kelly’s claim, was with a teacher at his children’s school, not a nanny. The teacher became pregnant in 2009 but did not carry the child to term, with two sources confirming to CBS News that it ended in a miscarriage. At the time of the affair, Emhoff and his first wife were still legally married but had separated.

Addressing the situation through a press statement, Emhoff said, “During my first marriage, Kerstin and I went through some tough times on account of my actions. I took responsibility, and in the years since, we worked through things as a family and have come out stronger on the other side.”

Kerstin Emhoff also responded earlier this month, saying, “Doug and I decided to end our marriage for a variety of reasons, many years ago. He is a great father to our kids, continues to be a great friend to me and I am really proud of the warm and supportive blended family Doug, Kamala, and I have built together.”
