Merchants in San Martín de Los Andes Protest Against “La China” Suárez

Eugenia “La China” Suárez traveled to San Martín de Los Andes to work on a new fiction project that will be seen on the platforms, starting in 2025. This is the series “La Bastarda”, in which Eleonora Wexler and Diego Cremonesi also participate, directed by Jorge Nisco and script by Leandro Calderone.

On April 9, filming began and the residents of San Martín de Los Andes expressed their displeasure over the closure of several streets in the city center, which causes losses in their businesses since people have no way to access it. The cuts are usually from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will continue for several days, until May 9.

Then the merchants joined together and wrote a letter to express their displeasure before the Deliberative Council. ‘The undersigned, local merchants, communicate hereby to let you know first of all our astonishment and concern for the measures taken regarding vehicular and pedestrian circulation, by virtue of the filming of the series that will take place in our city in the coming days. We are concerned because it directly affects our pockets, because it acts to the detriment of our activity,” says the text published in Noticias de los Andes.

“The economic situation of the country, as is publicly known, is already very difficult to sustain in these times, and each of us has on our backs: rental expenses, municipal tax, electricity, telephone gas, self-employed workers, VAT, suppliers’ checks to cover, and having the premises for so many days without the possibility of working properly and even if it is just one day, we understand that our rights are subjugated. We understand that there are people who benefit from this production, but that the benefit of some does not come from trampling on the rights of others,” the statement details.

“Due to the loss of profits from these measures that directly affect us, since our businesses are on the streets where the filming is going to take place and therefore cuts, we must ask for compensation equivalent to the average daily sales that we would be losing by virtue of the measures taken, as well as taking into account a discount in the municipal rate equivalent or proportional to the days affected,” concludes the message from the merchants in the area.
