My Heart Is Overflowing

Lindsay Lohan wants the filming of Freakier Friday to continue forever.

The star of the much-anticipated sequel to the Disney aughts classic celebrated the last Monday of shooting, expressing her overwhelming joy in an Instagram post. The post featured a couple of selfies showing her with a full heart. She joined her co-star Jamie Lee Curtis, who plays her onscreen mom and shared warm memories of the final day of filming, cherishing the nostalgia-filled moments.

“It’s been such a great time making this film,” the actress shared. “The wonderful cast, crew and everyone from @disneystudios have invested so much time and love into making this movie! Thank you to all of you!”

She continued, “I’m so grateful to have made this film, a story of family, mothers, and their children, and a film filled with love, laughter, and a ton of heart! It has been a pleasure to work with my dear friend Jamie Lee Curtis, who brings so much joy to our set every day and has made this all the more special!”

Lohan, whose credits include a depth of Disney favorites like The Parent Trap, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, and Herbie, also thanked director Nisha Ganatra (Late Night) for the film’s vision and the rest of her team for their commitment to the movie and to her.

Last month, Lohan mentioned that returning to the Disney lot after years of working with the studio as a child helped her reconnect with her past self. “When I got there, I kind of felt like this essence of a little kid again,” she told Nightline at the time.

According to previous reports, Freakier Friday is a follow-up to the 2003 movie, which itself was a remake of the 1976 original based on Mary Rodgers’ 1972 book Freaky Friday. The sequel follows an adult Anna (Lohan), who has a daughter and step-daughter from a new marriage. Within the new family dynamic, a version of the body-swap chaos will ensue.

Joining returning cast members Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao are Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, and Manny Jacinto.

A theatrical release is slated for next year.
