Prime Video’s newest period series, My Lady Jane, is set to deliver a captivating and entertaining experience. Jordan Peters recently shared his thoughts with Blavity’s Shadow and Act about portraying a lonely king in the series.

Peters takes on the role of King Edward, who ascended to the throne as a child. This early rise to power left King Edward isolated and deprived of typical childhood joys. However, his bond with Lady Jane Grey (played by Emily Bader) allows him to experience some of the youthful moments he missed.

“I loved the journey that King Edward goes on, especially being king at such a young age. He’s been robbed of his childhood, so there are so many things he didn’t get to experience,” Peters shared with Trey Mangum, managing editor of Shadow and Act. “He doesn’t have that many friends; his only friend is Lady Jane Grey. He’s such a lonely king.”

He added, “…The journey that he goes on is liberating, and it was so nice just to interact with other people, even with me… as an actor just working with other actors, trying different costumes and seeing different sets. …I absolutely loved it.”

My Lady Jane is set in an alternate fantasy Tudor world and is based on the book by Cynthia Hand. The series reimagines English history with a twist. In this version, King Edward doesn’t succumb to tuberculosis, and Lady Jane Grey escapes being beheaded by Edward’s father, Henry VIII. Instead, Jane ascends to the throne and, as the series synopsis reveals, becomes the target of sinister villains seeking her crown and her life. My Lady Jane unfolds as an epic tale of true love and high-stakes adventure.

The cast also includes Edward Bluemel, Dominic Cooper, Anna Chancellor, Rob Brydon, Jim Broadbent, Henry Ashton, Isabella Brownson, Robyn Betteridge, Kate O’Flynn, Abbie Hern, Máiréad Tyers, Joe Klocek, and Michael Workeye. The series is helmed by co-showrunners and executive producers Gemma Burgess and Meredith Glynn. Jamie Babbit directs five episodes and serves as producing director and executive producer, alongside Laurie MacDonald and Sarah Bradshaw, who also serve as executive producers.
