In the latest development in NASCAR’s ongoing charter dispute, Netflix has become the focal point.

According to Adam Stern of Sports Business Journal, NASCAR and its teams have hit another roadblock. Some teams have threatened to skip season two of Netflix’s NASCAR documentary if a new charter agreement isn’t finalized before the postseason begins at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sept. 8.

The impasse between NASCAR and its teams has persisted throughout the season, with no signs of compromise from either side.

Netflix is set to produce a second season of “NASCAR: Full Speed,” which debuted in January. The show focuses on the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs, and the upcoming season would concentrate on this year’s championship chase.

However, if teams decide not to participate, the show’s cancellation could be imminent. A documentary about top drivers chasing a championship without featuring those drivers isn’t compelling. If major teams like 23XI Racing, Hendrick Motorsports, Joe Gibbs Racing, or Team Penske opt out, it would diminish the show’s appeal and credibility.

The show aims to be NASCAR’s version of the popular Formula 1 series “Drive to Survive.” A lackluster effort portraying the season’s most intense moments wouldn’t reflect well on the premier racing series in the United States.

With the season ending in just three months, NASCAR and its teams need to reach an agreement. Failing to do so could have negative repercussions for both parties.
