The long-awaited Nautilus live-action series has finally arrived on Prime Video in the UK and Ireland.

Initially based on Jules Verne’s classic Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, the series found itself in limbo last year. It was originally slated for Disney+ UK but was removed as part of Disney’s major streaming content purge.

While AMC took over the series in the United States, UK and Ireland’s streaming rights have now been secured by Amazon through an exclusive deal with Disney Entertainment.

Nautilus delves into the origin story of Captain Nemo. An Indian Prince stripped of his birthright and family, Captain Nemo is shown stealing a powerful prototype submarine and setting out into the Indian Ocean. Accompanied by a motley crew, he aims to exact revenge on the ruthless East India Mercantile Company.

The cast includes Shazad Latif, Georgia Flood, Thierry Fremont, and Céline Menville. The series also features guest appearances from Richard E Grant, Anna Torv, and Noah Taylor.

About a year ago, Deadline reported that Disney was letting go of Nautilus. Shortly after, AMC announced its acquisition of the series. Around the same time, Disney also dropped The Spiderwick Chronicles, which eventually found a home with Roku.

Filming and production of Nautilus received support from the Australian Government’s Location Incentive and from the Queensland Government via Screen Queensland’s Production Attraction Strategy. Distributed by Disney Entertainment, this exclusive partnership has finally brought the much-anticipated series to Prime Video viewers in the UK and Ireland.
