Netflix Star Passes Away at 41

Julian Ortega, star of the hit Spanish series Elite on Netflix, has died at the age of 41.

According to The Sun, Ortega collapsed on Zahora Beach in Barbate, Spain, around 5:30 pm on Sunday, August 25. The incident occurred in front of onlookers at the La Calima beach bar.

Initial reports suggested that Ortega had drowned, but lifeguard services later confirmed that he was on the shore when he suffered cardiac arrest.

Paramedics tried to revive Ortega for half an hour, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The actor’s passing was announced in a statement by Spain’s national union of actors and actresses, which read: “From the Unión de Actores y Actrices, we send our most sincere condolences to the actor’s family and friends.”

Ortega appeared in six episodes of Elite, playing the manager of the restaurant La Cabaña. He also featured in other Spanish series, including Velvet, Cristo y Rey, El Pueblo, and 4 Estrellas. His parents, Gloria Munoz and Jose Antonio Ortega, are also actors.

Since the news of his death, fellow actors have expressed their sadness.

“My friend @lauracepedagolferichs just called me to give me the bad news that Julian Ortega Rodriguez has passed away, a tremendous actor and a colleague of integrity, honesty, and as good a person as his parents Gloria Muñoz and Jose Antonio Ortega,” actress Silvia Marso said.

Spanish actor Fernando Tejero added, “I am broken with pain, dear colleague… what a great actor and what a beautiful person you are, Julian Ortega… fly high, hugs to your father and mother.”

Fans also expressed their condolences in the comment section of his final Instagram post, shared on March 19. One fan pointed out the irony in his last photo, which featured him looking up at the sky illuminated by a ray of light. “Funny fate, that your last post was just like this… Now that you have passed on, rest in peace and may the light illuminate and give strength to your family and loved ones,” the fan stated.

Another wrote, “Rest easy, my friend. We will miss you.”
