Nicole Mitchell, Minnesota state senator, stripped of committee assignments and barred from caucus meetings during burglary investigations

Minnesota Senator Nicole Mitchell is facing burglary allegations and will be removed from committee assignments and caucus meetings while the investigations take place. Mitchell, a Democrat, was charged last week after being found in the basement of her stepmother’s home allegedly trying to retrieve her father’s ashes. Despite denying the allegations, the incident was caught on body cameras, according to Detroit Lakes Police Chief Steven Todd. Senate Republicans have filed an ethics complaint against Mitchell and some are calling for her resignation. Mitchell, who was elected in 2022, is in the midst of her first term.
