North Carolina report finds wilderness camp neglected to monitor boy’s breathing

A 12-year-old boy identified only by his initials, CJH, was found unresponsive and not breathing at Trails Carolina, a wilderness therapy camp in North Carolina. Staff failed to check on him during the night, and he was required to sleep in a bivy with a broken zipper. The state report found that there was improper supervision and lack of respect for the children at the camp. The camp’s license may be revoked, and an investigation into the boy’s death is ongoing. The camp has made a plan of correction to comply with state regulations.
