NPR: Idaho’s largest hospital system announces emergency flights for pregnant patients will no longer be available

Idaho Attorney General Raul Labrador expressed skepticism about hospital administrators publicizing the increase in emergency flights for out-of-state abortions, questioning if it is for political reasons. The Supreme Court is debating if Idaho’s abortion ban applies to emergency situations. St. Luke’s Health System reported a rise in patients needing emergency abortions out of state since the ban was put on hold in 2023. Doctors express concerns about second-guessing care decisions due to the ban. However, Labrador disputes the numbers and accuses the hospital system of spreading misinformation for political purposes. The U.S. government argues that Idaho’s abortion laws conflict with federal requirements for emergency patient care. The Supreme Court is expected to provide a ruling in the summer.
