NPR reports on Newsom’s proposal to allow doctors from Arizona to provide abortion services in California

California Gov. Gavin Newsom is working on emergency legislation to allow doctors from Arizona to provide abortions in California after the Arizona Supreme Court ruled to outlaw most abortions. Newsom stated that California is in a position to help those who may lose access to abortion in Arizona. The proposed legislation is being coordinated with Arizona officials. Following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to reverse Roe v. Wade, conservative states have limited abortion access, while California and others are working to protect reproductive rights. States like Alabama are introducing laws restricting minors from traveling out of state for abortions. Newsom is also opposing efforts to restrict abortion access.
