Crews are preparing to conduct a controlled demolition of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Maryland, collapsed after a container ship impact. The ship is stuck among the wreckage, blocking Baltimore’s port. Six roadwork crew members died in the collapse, all Latino immigrants. The demolition will allow the ship to be refloated, normalizing maritime traffic. The crew will shelter during detonation. Once demolished, steel will be lifted onto barges. Officials aim to clear the port by May’s end. The crew has been assisting investigators. The NTSB and FBI are investigating the ship’s electrical system to determine the cause of the collapse.
