NPR: Ukraine removes U.S.-supplied Abrams tanks from front lines due to drone threats

Ukraine has put aside U.S.-provided Abrams M1A1 battle tanks in its conflict with Russia due to difficulties operating them against Russian drones, with five tanks already lost. The U.S. will help reset tactics for Ukraine, moving tanks from the front lines. The U.S. is providing $6 billion in military aid, including counter-drone capabilities and long-range ballistic missiles. The delay in U.S. funding forced Ukrainian forces to ration ammunition, making them vulnerable. Ukraine’s use of tanks has been limited, and they have not integrated combined arms warfare tactics, resulting in losses during their recent withdrawal from Avdiivka.
