*NSYNC’s ‘Bye Bye Bye’ Hits Global Excl. U.S. Top 10 with Deadpool & Wolverine

*NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye” has notably climbed to No. 8 from No. 16 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart. The song, originally a major hit in 2000, has gained renewed popularity due to its inclusion in the box office hit Deadpool & Wolverine, which has grossed over $1 billion globally since its premiere on July 26.

The Billboard Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. charts, launched in September 2020, rank songs based on streaming and sales activity from over 200 territories worldwide, compiled by Luminate. The Global 200 includes worldwide data, while the Global Excl. U.S. chart excludes U.S. data. The charts use a weighted formula that incorporates official streams from both subscription and ad-supported tiers of audio and video music services, alongside download sales from full-service digital music retailers globally. Sales from direct-to-consumer sites are not included in the chart calculations.

“Bye Bye Bye” jumps on the Global Excl. U.S. chart with 42.4 million streams (up 50%) and 3,000 copies sold (up 5%) outside the U.S. from August 2-8, mainly fueled by its early appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. The song debuted a week earlier, marking *NSYNC’s first entry on this chart.

Besides seasonal hits, “Bye Bye Bye” is the second-oldest track to make it to the Global Excl. U.S. top 10. Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)” from 1985 held the top spot for a week in July 2022, after gaining new life from its feature in Netflix’s Stranger Things and subsequent promotion as a single.

Following in third place is Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s “Murder on the Dancefloor,” from 2001, which hit No. 9 on the Global Excl. U.S. chart this February, rejuvenated by its use in the film Saltburn and its popularity on TikTok.

“Bye Bye Bye” has also moved up from No. 18 to No. 12 on the Global 200 and re-entered the Hot 100 at No. 45. In the U.S. from August 2-8, it achieved 10 million official streams (up 31%), a radio airplay audience of 4.8 million (up 8%), and 2,000 in sales.

To date, “Bye Bye Bye” boasts 4.8 billion in radio reach, 517 million official on-demand streams, and 1.3 million downloads sold in the U.S. The song won for Best Pop Video at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards where *NSYNC performed it, and it received a Record of the Year Grammy nomination.
