NU College Democrats respond to People’s Resolution and encampment

Northwestern College Democrats recently explained their vote on the Northwestern People’s Resolution and shared their thoughts on the ongoing encampment on Deering Meadow. In a 20-2 vote, the College Democrats cast two votes against signing the resolution, citing concerns about the language not promoting a safe environment for intellectual and political expression. The organization also expressed opposition to some actions of the Israeli government, but believed the resolution did not distinguish between the country and its current leadership. They also stated that the University should not support violence against civilians in Gaza, but should not sever ties with Israeli institutions as the resolution suggests. They further expressed respect for peaceful protests and condemned the ongoing atrocities in Gaza.
