Oceanside Pier Fire Still Smouldering on Second Day – NBC 7 San Diego

Dozens of fire crews worked to extinguish a massive blaze at the Oceanside Pier, which started at an old Ruby’s Diner and spread under the pier. The fire was still smoldering the next day, with ongoing efforts to control it. Authorities were unsure of the cause but were investigating. Despite the fire damaging the diner and some shops, most of the pier was reportedly undamaged. Efforts were being made to prevent contamination of the surrounding water. The structure itself was stable, and hope remained that the pier could eventually reopen, thanks to the fire suppression system recently upgraded in the city.
