Official’s evaluation of Tennessee’s storm damage prompts Southeast to prepare for severe weather threat today

Officials in the central and southern US are assessing damage from reported tornadoes and powerful storms that killed at least three people on Wednesday. More than 9 million people are under a tornado watch in northern and central Georgia, southeastern Tennessee, and western North Carolina until 1:00 p.m. Tennessee was hit hard by tornadoes and flash flooding, with multiple tornado reports and water rescues. Across the region, 13 tornadoes have been reported, along with wind gusts and hail. The severe weather threat is expected to shift south on Thursday towards the Southern Plains and Southeast, with the possibility of large hail, damaging winds, and flash flooding.
