Over 28 arrested as protesters establish encampments on Emory University campus, reports WSB-TV Channel 2

Police arrested 28 people after protests at Emory University’s campus, with a large police presence including Atlanta police, Emory campus police, and Georgia State Patrol troopers responding. The protests were in response to the Israel-Hamas war, with protesters calling for universities to separate from companies supporting Israel’s military efforts. Police used tear gas and tasers to disperse protesters, leading to some being arrested for criminal trespass. Emory University’s Vice President for Public Safety stated that 20 of the arrested individuals were from the Emory community and that efforts are being made to expedite their release. Governor Brian Kemp praised law enforcement’s response, while Congressman Hank Johnson criticized the involvement of Georgia State Patrol.
