Paramedic receives 4 years of probation for involvement in Elijah McClain’s passing

A Colorado paramedic was sentenced to four years of probation for his involvement in the killing of Elijah McClain. The paramedic, Jeremy Cooper, faced up to three years in prison for criminally negligent homicide. This sentencing marks the end of a long process to hold those responsible for McClain’s death accountable. Other first responders involved in the incident, including paramedic Peter Cichuniec and police officers, were also convicted and sentenced. McClain was stopped by police while walking home in 2019 and was later sedated with ketamine, leading to his death. Prosecutors initially declined to press charges, but a special prosecutor was assigned in 2020. In 2021, indictments were finally made against those involved. This is an ongoing story with updates expected.
