Parents charged with child abuse after keeping 11-year-old Nevada boy with autism in metal cage at home

A couple in Nevada was arrested after their 11-year-old autistic son was found in a metal cage wearing only a diaper with feces smeared on the floor. Henderson police visited the home for a wellness check when the school district raised concerns about truancy. The boy was being kept in a large metal enclosure in inhospitable living conditions. Misty and Jeffery Scanlan were charged with child abuse or neglect. The boy’s father claimed the cage was used as a disciplinary measure due to his son’s aggressive behavior. The Scanlans posted bond and will appear in court in May.
