Park ranger Robbi Mecus tragically passed away while ice climbing Mount Johnson in New York

A New York forest ranger and trans advocate, Robbi Mecus, died after falling while attempting to climb a steep cliff in Alaska. She and her climbing partner fell while ice climbing Mount Johnson in Denali National Park. Mecus, a transgender woman, died in the fall, while her partner survived with serious injuries. Mecus had been a forest ranger for 25 years and was commended for her professionalism and rescue efforts. She was also a leader in the LGBTQ community. Despite her struggles coming to terms with her gender identity, she found solace in rock and ice climbing, becoming a leader in those communities.
