Patrick Mahomes on Travis Kelce’s unchanged nature amid Taylor Swift romance

Patrick Mahomes recently enjoyed a double date with his wife, Brittany Mahomes, along with his NFL buddy Travis Kelce and Kelce’s girlfriend, Taylor Swift. Last month, Patrick and Brittany attended Swift’s Eras Tour show in Amsterdam with Kelce. In an interview, Patrick opened up about the night.

“We were just having fun and enjoying a dinner just like anyone else would,” Patrick shared in The Athletic, published on August 20. “That’s what makes it so great. We don’t make it more than what it is; it’s just friendship, fellowship, and enjoying everyone’s success.”

Despite the attention his high-profile friendship has attracted, the quarterback emphasized that he remains the same person. “It’s a huge platform and everyone in the world can see it, deservedly so because of how great Taylor is, but it’s still Travis,” Patrick continued. “I think that’s what makes it so cool, even though it’s such a big thing for the world.”

Kansas City Chiefs’ tight end, Travis Kelce, and superstar Taylor Swift’s romance has fascinated many. Patrick Mahomes even played a part in its inception. Last year, Kelce made a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it to catch Swift’s attention, spurred by Mahomes.

“I like to take some of the credit because I was the one who invited Travis to his first Taylor concert when he brought the friendship bracelet,” Mahomes said on the Pat McAfee Show. “He was sitting in my suite, so I feel like I was the matchmaker.”

Mahomes added, “I feel like I had some input there, as well. I was like, ‘Dude, you should go for it.’ And you know Travis, man, he does it … and I’m glad it’s all worked out.”

Swift also shared her perspective on the now-famous bracelet and their initial interactions. “This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell,” Swift recalled in her 2023 TIME Person of the Year profile. She was referring to Kelce’s not-so-subtle hint about not meeting her.

“We started hanging out right after that. So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew,” Swift said, adding that she appreciated the private moments they had before the public became aware of their relationship.

With Swift taking a two-month hiatus from her Eras Tour and Kelce beginning the preseason for the 2024-2025 NFL season, both seem to have busy schedules ahead.
