Peacemaker Star Confirms Unexpected Return for Season 2

Robert Patrick will reportedly return to reprise his role as Christopher Smith’s father, Auggie, in the upcoming second season of Peacemaker. This might surprise some fans who remember the character meeting his end in the first season. However, this aligns with Peacemaker’s comic lore. Unlike the TV series, Peacemaker’s father in the comics wasn’t a supervillain but an Army officer and later a politician who taught Chris vital skills.

Following Auggie’s death in the first season, the character appeared as a ghost in the finale, tormenting Christopher and reminding him what a terrible person he is. This haunting element is consistent with the dynamic seen in Peacemaker’s first DC comic series from the 1980s.

“I was with John [Cena] on Friday. We’re filming season 2,” said Patrick, as reported by PopVerse. He added, “I was just working with James Gunn on Friday. James is amazing. He’s one of the most talented people I’ve met in my life. Incredible mind and just a wonderful human being. I love him and his wife Jennifer Holland. We were doing a big scene for the second season of Peacemaker on Friday right before I came here.”

While Peacemaker’s core concept as a pacifist willing to achieve peace at any cost, even through violence, was established with his original creation for Charlton Comics, the inherent conflict and its effect on his mental stability weren’t explored until Paul Kupperberg introduced the character to DC in the 1980s.

In the 1988 Peacemaker miniseries by Kupperberg, Tod Smith, and Pablo Marcos, audiences discovered that Christopher frequently argued with the ghost of his father, who was revealed to have been a Nazi who died by suicide after his crimes were exposed. This characterization has been revisited by other writers over the years. Therefore, while it might be unexpected for fans of the TV show, longtime readers will not be surprised to see Patrick return for season two.

Peacemaker is currently in production and is slated for a likely 2025 release.
