Peter Dinklage Hopeful ‘Toxic Avenger’ Reboot Will Shine

Peter Dinklage is genuinely excited about his reboot of The Toxic Avenger and is eager for more people to see it.

The Emmy-winning actor was recently asked whether the film could get a wide release soon, considering its remarkable reception when it premiered at the Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas, last year. “No, I’m not a producer on it. I don’t know,” Dinklage told ComicBook.com. “I do want it to get out there into the world because it was a really big hit at Fantastic Fest in Austin, and Macon Blair, the writer/director who is also in The Thicket … He’s incredible. He’s one of my favorite people and favorite artists.”

The Game of Thrones alum hopes the film will see the light of day soon. “So hopefully it will have its day in the toxic sun.”

The Toxic Avenger, a modern take on the original 1984 cult-favorite movie, centers around Winston Gooze, played by Dinklage, a janitor whose employer refuses to cover treatment for his terminal illness. After robbing the company, Winston falls into toxic waste and metamorphoses into the Toxic Avenger, a mutant hero determined to correct society’s injustices.

The horror-comedy has impressed critics, garnering a 92 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes from 25 reviews following its global premiere at Fantastic Fest in September 2023. However, it has yet to receive an official release date.

The reboot features an ensemble cast including Jacob Tremblay, Taylour Paige, Elijah Wood, and Kevin Bacon.

Additionally, earlier this year, it was revealed that Matt Bors and Fred Harper were collaborating on a new The Toxic Avenger comic, published by indie publisher AHOY Comics. The first of the five-issue comic series is set to be released on October 9.

Dinklage’s passion for this project is palpable, reflecting a shared enthusiasm for fresh takes on beloved classics. Fans of the original The Toxic Avenger and newcomers alike eagerly await the film’s release, hoping it does not linger in limbo for too long.

The reboot promises to retain the quirky charm of its predecessor while introducing a modern twist and an impressive cast that could make it a memorable addition to the series.

Peter Dinklage’s involvement alone adds significant interest, given his acclaimed performances in a variety of roles. His portrayal of Winston Gooze/The Toxic Avenger stands to offer a unique and compelling take on the character, adding depth and nuance to the film.

In the meantime, while fans wait for the film’s release, the new comic book series will provide ample entertainment. The collaboration between Matt Bors and Fred Harper should deliver an engaging narrative that resonates with both old fans and new readers, keeping the spirit of The Toxic Avenger alive and vibrant.

Despite the wait, the buzz surrounding The Toxic Avenger reboot keeps growing. With a dedicated team behind it and a leading actor as passionate as Dinklage, the film could very well be worth the anticipation.

For now, the hope is that the film gets the wide release it deserves, allowing audiences everywhere to enjoy this reimagined tale of an unlikely hero rising from the toxic depths.
